Mentoring a Displaced Teen for Project Krylati

Tetiana and her mentee for Project Krylati

If you read our last Impact blog, “In Times of War, Mobilizing 100,000 Volunteers in Ukraine”, you learned about the Krylati project. This project connects displaced teenagers with psychologists and mentors for support and to help with adjusting to a new community.

Nataliia, featured in the previous story, is the Krylati project manager. Our current Ukrainian student Tetiana Luchak is one of the mentors!

Their Sessions:

Tetiana has been meeting her mentee, Sasha, for the past two months. Here’s a little bit about their online sessions:

“Sasha is a 14-year-old girl from Melitopol, which is an occupied city in southeastern Ukraine. She currently lives in Kryvyi Rih with her family. I have seen Sasha’s growth throughout these two months of mentoring sessions.

Sasha is applying for the FLEX Program, while also looking for local opportunities. Her determination results in focusing on the brighter sides of her life, which are art and photography.

While having our sessions, Sasha decided to get back to learning Japanese through the platform that I have recommended to her. Moreover, Sasha has started doing a volunteering internship online and learning web design since we started to have our weekly conversations.

Recently, Sasha also applied to the School of Resilience from the Klitschko Foundation and is applying to become a volunteer of a local youth organisation in her new community.

I try to help her to find various opportunities and pass on my knowledge of volunteerism and ability to find various events.

Furthermore, I am grateful that Sasha has been open to transforming her life by implementing healthy daily habits of regular walks and a good sleeping schedule in order to better her well-being. We have discussed that after the official ending of the project, we will still have monthly sessions because it is an honour for me to see my amazing mentee constantly grow!”

Tetiana’s Impact:

Tetiana has been making a big difference in Sasha’s life:

“Talking to Tetiana has given me incredible support and useful advice. I’m extremely grateful for all her help in finding new activities and sharing the ones she already knows. All our time together helped me to improve my personality as I became more open to new opportunities and confident in my decisions.”

We are proud that both Nataliia and Tetiana are a part of this life-changing project.
